Goldman Sachs Ups S&P Year End TargetGoldman Sachs raised the S&P 500 index target for the year end to 1060 from 940, but said the risk of double dip recession remains significant. Goldman made the move to reflect potential price return of about 13 percent from the current levels. They also raised the S&P 500 operating earnings view to $52 from $40 this year.

June Leading Indicators Up 0.7%The index of leading economic indicators, which is supposed to forecast economic trends six to nine months ahead rose 0.7 percent in June following a revised .3 percent in May. Analysts expected a rise of 0.5 percent.

Halliburton Profit Drops 47%Halliburton posted a better than expected quarterly profit Monday, but it warned that North American natural gas markets were likely to stay weak through the end of the year. Second quarter net profit fell to $262 million, or 29 cents per share from $504 million or 55 cents a share from a year ago as revenue fell to $3.49 billion from $4.49 billion

Gold Rises Above $950Gold futures rose above $950 an ounce Monday, rising to their highest level in more than five weeks. August gold gained $15.70 to $953.20 an ounce. It had traded as high as $954.90 earlier in the session, the highest intraday level sine June 11.

Texas Instruments Gets UpgradeJefferies & Company raised its rating for the company to hold from underperform saying that the business has recovered. Jefferies says the company across the board continues to recover, with bright spots in wireless. Analysts expect Texas Instruments to report earnings of 18 cents a share on revenue of $2.4 billion.

Treasury Injects $203 Billion To 649 FirmsTreasury has allocated more than $203 billion in capital to 649 financial institutions as part of its capital injection program as of June 30, according to the Financial Stability Oversight Board. They also reported that as of June 30, the government has made more than $23.9 billion in loans under the TALF program.
