GDP Drops 5.7%The U.S. economy contracted slightly less than estimated in the first quarter while corporate profits rebounded. Gross domestic product which measures total goods and services within the U.S. dropped at a 5.7 percent annual rate less than the 6.1 percent estimated by the government last month.

Consumer Sentiment Highest In Eight MonthsU.S. consumer confidence improvrd in May to its highest level since last September, pushed up on hopes the governments economic stimulus program will bring the economy out of recession. The University of Michigan Survey Of Consumers said its final May reading on consumer sentiment was 68.7, higher than an early May figure of 67.9.

Oil Hits 6 Month HighOil rose to a six month high above $66 a barrel on Friday on track for its biggest monthly percentage gain in more than a decade. Oil prices have jumped around 30 percent this month on hopes of a global economic recovery  this year and a bullish outlook from Saudi Arabia. Crude for July delivery  hit  a high of $66.47
