30 Year Mortgage Rate RisesThe average 30 year fixed rate mortgage rose slightly higher this week, rising to 5.80%. The average 15 year fixed ratemortgage inched lower to 5.16%, while the jumbo 30 year fixed rate pushed higher to 7.03%

Jobless Claims Have a Surprise IncreaseFirst time claims for unemployment rose unexpectedly in the latest week. The number of initial claims in the week ending June 20 rose 15,000 to 627,000. This is the highest level since mid May. Analysts had expected a fall in claims.
