There are many books written about the stock market. Some books are good with lots of information and others are really just fluff with lots of useless information. Almost every day someone asks me what books they should read to become better in the stock market. Honestly, I’m not really a fan of many books out there on the subject, so I just tell them they need to study the charts and see what works for themselves. Many stock trading books try to push the reader into their trading program. Basically, the author has a goal to get the reader to buy something from them these days. Unfortunately, this is how I feel and many traders that have read countless books on the subject will usually agree with me.
So while I don’t promote any books there is one book that all aspiring traders should read. This book was first published in 1923 and it is still relevant today as it was back then. The book is called “Reminiscences of a Stock Operator” by author Edwin Lefèvre. This book is one of the greatest books ever written for anyone looking to trade the markets. Despite the book being nearly 100 years old is a timeless classic. The rules of the stock market that were talked about in this book are still happening today. It walks you through the life of the legendary trader, Jesse Livermore, who was one of the greatest stock market operators that every lived.
The book talks about many of the things that occur in the stock market all the time. It teaches us about trend, bull and bear market characteristics, greed, fear, and so much more. One of the greatest lessons that anyone will get out of the classic book is that it takes a man a long time to learn all the lessons of all his mistakes. This is a book that I will still read once or twice a year. I first read it in the late 90’s and it is still part of yearly reading to this very day. These days it is also available on audio book, so sometimes I just listen to a few chapters while driving and I still seem to find something that I missed or forgotten over the years. This is the one book that every aspiring trader or investor must read.
